Sony Pearl VPL-VW50 1080p Price

I don’t have a projector. One day, however, one day. After I get those hardwood floors for my wife, which is taking a long time to save for (they’re expensive!), then I can build out my basement. And I’m telling you right now that the main feature of my basement home theater room will be a huge honkin screen with a great projector. So while I’m not in the market today for projectors, I do keep my eye on them. And one of the ones I’m keeping my eye on is Sony’s new “Pearl” projector - the VPL-VW50. It’s the baby brother to the “Ruby” VPL-VW100. Both are 1080p affairs using SXRD, and both have 1080p HDMI inputs. The Pearl, however, has a cheaper, UHP, lamp.

For projectors like this, 1080p does make a difference, because the screen sizes used are so big. And now the Pearl has been announced by Sony to have an MSRP of $5k, to be available late September 2006. Mmmm… Now I just need to get another source of income…
