JVC announces 1080p Projector - for under $7000!
Yesterday, JVC announced that they will be releasing a 1080p, 3-Chip D-ILA projector for under $7000. While that may still be a lot of dough to spend on a display, especially when flat panels have dropped in price so dramatically, comparatively speaking, the price is actually incredible! Take a look at prices of this type of display, including the Sony Ruby, the Marantz 11s1, and Optoma HD81, and you can see that JVC is pricing this baby quite aggressively. There are no details as to the product name or model number as of yet, as it is not due until early 2007, Perhaps we shall be able to dub 2007 as the year of 1080p!

This isn’t as incredible as the 1080p sony pearl which is almost the same as the ruby but has a 200watt lamp instead of the xenon lamp.
Its msrp on the sony style site is $4995 but can be found closer to $4k on the avsforums

You make a good point, and from my personnel preference, I would go with the Sony (as I am currently using a trusty old VPL-HS10 in my theater). The $7000 price, however, is pretty incredible when you consider it is a 3-Chip solution. 3-Chip DLP’s at 720p are STILL very expensive for the most part. That’s what caught my eye here.
