M:I III coming to HD DVD

Everyone remembers certain moments in their life. An event happens, and you forever remember that you were eating nachos in the den, spilling a Mountain Dew on your dog, when you heard the news. Usually these events are tragedies, though sometimes other news might climb into your psyche in the same way.

This piece of news is neither. I don’t remember when I saw MI3, nor who I saw it with. I remember that it wasn’t a bad movie, and I liked the role the girlfriend/fiance (I forget) played at the end of the movie.

MI3 is, however, one of Paramount’s first A-list movies to make its way to the HD DVD format, so this is significant news. No release date was given, but we know that it’s coming out.

Today I noticed that Cars is coming out on DVD in the fall. I wondered why Disney wasn’t releasing it on BD to boost the BD format. As a matter of fact, nobody seems to like putting out A-list titles near the beginning of a format launch. Which is strange, because if you want to make a format successful, one great way to do it would be to put out a bunch of A-list titles for that format.

Any thoughts?
