Sony’s New 1080p Front Projector

Sony has made some excellent front projectors since the days of CRT, and have continued to make excellent LCD models. The “Pearl”, which appears to now have an official model number of VPL-VW50, looks to continue that tradition. It will be the third 1080p LCD projector from Sony, following the amazing Qualia 004 and the “Ruby” VPL-VW100. According to the folks at Home Theater Blog, initial specs reference only 2 HDMI inputs, with no component counterparts. Let’s just hope it will ship with HDMI version 1.3, or is easily upgradeable.

Update! According to new pictures on HDBeat, the projector DOES in fact support component and VGA. I thought it would be a bit strange if it didn’t…
