I did see that, but like I said, there was no new information over the last time we heard the same rumour.

Perhaps you didn't see this article that mention an executive talking about it on tuesday.

http://www.cio.com/blog_view.html?CID=22245

This is the first mention I've heard of it since they scrapped their original plans. . No there is no specific information, but if it exists after it was originally cancelled, that would seem to be new to me.

This same information, that Samsung might be putting out a combo Blu-ray / HD DVD player, was doing the rounds months ago. There is no new information is what's been going around recently. I'd call that old news.

I don't think there was anything old about it. The samsung exec quoted was quoted in the last few days regarding the combo player possibility. The strength of samsung's blu-ray commitment isn't necessarily in question to me, they're the ones who have actually shipped a player when they said they would so far. but if the reports are true and Sony is shipping inferior titles at launch while delaying their own player, possibly until better quality titles are available, that's gotta put Samsung in a weird position. I'm sure they have a player in some stage of development, the question is whether or not they feel the need to bring it out.
