Sony’s new SXRD Displays
We’ve been waiting for this announcement for quite some time. (If you measure time in increments of a half-month.) We knew it was coming because Sony gave away the secret a little while ago, but now it’s official. Yesterday Sony announced five new SXRD displays with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. They are part of the GrandWEGA lineup, and range in size from 50 to 70 inches. And get this: they all include HDMI inputs with 1080p capability.
Two of the new SXRD displays will be XBR models. Now I don’t know how much has changed over the years, but it just so happens that I’m upstairs in our bonus room, watching my good old trusty SD Sony XBR TV right now, and I love this thing. It’s the best SD display I’ve personally ever seen. Hopefully these 60″ and 70″ SXRD displays match up to the high expectations that the XBR label conjures up in my mind. These sets will be available for about $7,800 and $5,300.
They’re also introducing three non-XBR SXRD sets, the A2000 line, in sizes of 60″, 55″, and 50″. These will retail for $4,500, $4,000, and $3,500, respectively.
