iPod Videos on BD’s ?

Here’s a strange one. How would you like to go to the store, bring home Terminator 2 on BD, plop it in your computer, transfer a video file over to your iPod, and then watch the movie on your iPod?

I don’t get it. I never understood why a study would release a movie on UMD because I never understood why anyone would want to watch a movie on a PSP. (Disclaimer: I have a PSP.) Similarly I don’t understand why anyone would want to watch a movie on an iPod.

iPod and PSP screens are just too small to get a good movie experience. They’re too small to watch television shows, for that matter. I’ve been wondering what these tiny little screens might be good for. Maybe video podcasts, maybe some news snippets? Like Rocketboom or something like that.

Anybody have thoughts?

Apple trying to include iPod video content on Blu-ray discs?

Hmm, I wonder, maybe because the PSP battery lasts ~7 hours and a laptop etc can’t come close.

You are on a plane or you are in the back seat of a car and you don’t want to carry around a large playback device.

Or you connect your PSP/iPod to your car’s video system to watch a movie.

I don’t know about you, but if I had a car video system I wouldn’t want to carry around DVDs and try to manage them while I drive.

Don’t discount portablility, but who wants to buy multiple formats of the same movie? Wouldn’t it be great to buy a BD disc and use it at home or on the go?

You can’t possibly expect a home theater performance out of a portable system, but you can most definitely catch up on those movies you always wanted to watch while on your train to work. That’s what I do and the PSP screen so far has been adequate.

Not sure about the iPod Video screen, that one seems too small.

Maybe then I should say that nobody in their right mind would watch a movie at home on a PSP? I dunno. I know that the opportunity for watching a movie on my PSP never comes up. I don’t have a long commute to work (15 min) and I drive.

  5. Henning Says:

Ben: the PSP doesn’t have a video out, so you can’t watch the movie your car’s system from the PSP. I’m not so sure about the video iPod…
