Akimbo your HD On-Demand

Now you can subscribe to Akimbo’s service and get HD programming through your PC or HD extender box (like an Xbox 360). The basic subscription is $9.99 per month, and includes some programming. You’ll have to pay to get the good stuff, is my guess. There are over 100 channels with 8000 programs available.

Ooh, ya. Here’s the premium stuff:

Akimbo’s Premium Programming can be purchased and experienced in a variety of ways. On a given “channel” users can subscribe to the channel for a monthly fee, typically $6.99-$9.99 per month, or view individual programs from that channel for prices ranging from $0.99-$2.99 per viewing period. Viewing periods typically range from seven to 30 days, and some programming is unlimited. Once you choose a program it downloads to the hard drive in your computer or your Akimbo Player, and the user can play, pause, fast-forward or rewind, just as with a DVR.

Nya. Sounds kinda hokey to me. I’m not sure I want to pay more than I’m already paying for cable. My cable provider gets me several channels of HD, and HD PPV too (though only two channels worth). I don’t think that Akimbo would actually get me anything that I want.
