1080i vs. 480p Comparison
Unfortunately the link that HD Beat points to isn’t working any more, probably due to the Digg effect. But hopefully it’ll come back up. When it does, you might like to check out the differences the author shows between 480p and 1080i imagery. He takes the same scene from both a 480p source and a 1080i source and shows them both on the webpage. Just hover your mouse over the image to see the difference. It’s obvious and clear.
This site is great for showing people why they need an HDTV. Unlike the SACD and DVD Audio formats, which many people can’t hear the benefits of, HDTV has a clear value proposition. So all those people that compare the BD and HD DVD format war to SACD and DVD Audio are just a little off base.

I got to the link before it went down, and it’s definitely worth bookmarking to check out later (assuming it comes back up).
I don’t have an HDTV yet, but I was incredibly impressed by the difference. The 1080i captures (they are downsized to the same size as 480p) show a *lot* more detail - not subtle stuff, but really obvious stuff.
Assuming that the video experience is the same as the static experience, well I don’t think anybody would miss the huge difference. The site was very well done too, but with all the pictures it was certainly bandwidth intensive.
