UDI proposed to rival HDMI & DVI

I don’t get it.

Why?

Seriously.

I don’t get it.

Why?

  1. Kurt Says:

HDMI was designed for TV, not computer displays. High end computer displays already push alot more pixels than tv’s do and they will only get larger/more pixels (as I don’t think tv’s will be pushing past 1080p for quite some time).

  2. J Says:

HDMI has a 5Gbps bandwidth limit while UDI has a 16Gbps limit at this point. The higher limit of UDI will allow for the transmission of higher resolution video and/or higher refresh rates.
Like Kurt said, TVs aren’t going past 1080p any time soon but computers are already (such as Apple’s 30 inch 2560×1600 resolution display).

A clearer picture is beginning to form…

  4. Richard Says:

One of our commenters also noted DVI has a very short maximum length which probably plays into the new spec as well.
