Review: Panasonic PT-AE900U
Hey, didn’t I just mention this projector? Well ultimate AV gives a crack at this projector too, and they also can’t seem to shut up about it.
I’ll skip all the technical details, like its lens-shift features, HDMI input, 2:1 zoom lens, 1280 x 720 resolution, 3 LCD panels, dynamic iris, etc, because you’ve heard them all before about this projector. And if you haven’t, you have to search the archives!
What does ultimate AV really have to say?
The colour is good: “If a couple of years ago someone had told me that you could get color this pleasing from an LCD projector, I would have told them to get them back on their meds.”
Good blacks and contrast ratio: “the Panasonic clearly belongs in the ranks of LCD projectors that don’t exhibit the weaknesses typical of LCD projectors in the past, thanks to that Dynamic Iris.”
Deinterlacing and scaling: “In most respects the results ranged from very good to superb.” But it did fare better with well-deinterlaced material than having to do the work itself.
Problems? ultimate AV noticed a tiny bit of softness in the image, and a few problems with locking on to the correct color format using the HDMI input.
Conclusion:
And with the Panasonic you get a lot—a compact, quiet projector with fine color, solid black levels, no DLP rainbows, and a range of adjustments that is the equal of projectors costing several times as much. It definitely deserves a close look.
