JVC Upscales to HDMI Too

[Update 09sep05: JVC’s Press Release]
[Update: About is also reporting on these unique receivers, pointing out that the most affordable can be had for $500.]

TWICE is reporting that JVC has some interesting receivers in the works as well. I just mentioned yesterday about Denon’s new receiver features, and it looks like JVC is matching them.

JVC’s 2005 receiver lineup gets HD upscaling to HDMI outputs for the first time, supporting resolutions of 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. HDMI switching will be included as well, and all this for everyday prices of $499 and $799, no less. This is quite an announcement, and now that both Denon and JVC are doing this kind of thing, I hope that other manufacturers follow suit.

With good news sometimes comes bad, and this is the case in JVC’s announcement when it comes to set-top-boxes (STBs). They said that they’ve dropped plans for “its first three models with HDD PVRs and for its first three models with HD up-scaling HDMI outputs”.
