Toshiba 52HM94 52″ DLP RPTV
[Update 30may05: ultimate AV has a review too]
Sound & Vision magazine has reviewed the Toshiba 52HM94 52″ DLP RPTV.
With a bit of tweaking, Toshiba’s 52HM94 DLP HDTV is capable of delivering stunning pictures. And its wide viewing angle lets the whole family enjoy the same bright image and vibrant color from any seat on the couch. Unfortunately, Toshiba’s problems with the TV Guide On Screen feature could be a serious issue for anyone who expects to use a Cable CARD or purchase the optional Symbio hard-disk recorder. But if, like me, you already have a high-def cable box with a hard-disk video recorder, you’ll find a lot to like here.

I purchased this TV late March and the lamp has already gone
out. Toshiba’s customer service was not user friendly and told
me lamps are like light bulbs and sometimes just are defective
and go out. It will take up to two weeks for replacement b/c
although under warranty, lamp is customer replacement issue.
Customer service states no way to expedite processing or
shipping of lamp. Supervisor to return my call in 3-5 days-no
response yet. Email customer service no response. I feel
if you pay $4000 for TV you should be able to use it for more than
2 months before you are looking at blank screen.
Also I have not found TV user friendly–digital stations log out
frequently and you have to reset TV to factory settings which
then requires you to reenter all your previous settings. Also
TV guide on screen will only work if you have Toshiba VCR
hook up–thereby limiting watching TV and recording at same
time.
Picture quality average, sound poor, overall I would not again
invest in this product.
