PVR People Miffed at DirecTV

When it came to getting an HD PVR, I didn’t have much choice in my area: a Rogers 8000HD (which I had for a while) or a Rogers 8300HD (both sourced from Scientific Atlanta). At first I had the 8000HD, now I have the 8300HD. I’m glad I didn’t have the choice to switch to satellite and maybe get the DirecTV HD TiVo, which cost a grand. Why? Because that investment could have been rather, uh, well, not good.

DirecTV’s High-Definition TiVo, bought today, may not get you all the HD DirecTV will be offering a year from now. That’s because DirecTV is changing to a different codec for HD delivery. They promise that existing HD will still be delivered to you as before, but if you want any new channels you’re out of luck. Not a good thing.
